The Finnisher is gone like the Finnish Flash

It was late on a Friday night and rumors were swirling like a menacing Manitoba blizzard. Sure there had been trade requests but those were brushed aside and dismissed so as not to think about the inevitable. You try to sort through the clutter on the twitter machine to find out if these rumors are credible and sure enough the rumors have originated from reliable sources. These rumors predict that when you wake up the next morning your favorite Jet, Winnipeg's favorite Jet, will no longer be part of our team. The next morning you wake up hoping all of it was fake, but when you pick up your phone the news  "LAINE" and "TRADED" hits you like an avalanche. The news is hard to process but you know that hockey is a business and this is probably for the best. However, objective thinking is especially difficult with the overtime hattrick against the Leafs playing over and over again in your head. Once you come to grips with the news, a little excitement seeps into...

Hockey is back! (Soon)

Finally Covid is over enough that you can go back to a Jets game, its been almost a year since you've seen so many geared up fans all in one spot. You can smell the distinct scent of "Jets Game"- buttery popcorn and fully loaded Jet dogs, but you can also sense the excitement of everyone cause its their first game back to the arena too. Many of these fans have experienced some sort of crisis in the last year and this is one of the first steps to things returning to normal. You reflect for a few moments, during warm ups, on the past year and feel a wave of emotions - relief that it's over, sadness for the people who lost something, anticipation for the opportunities ahead, and excitement for the game you finally get to watch. You stand up for the anthems, yell "True North," and take a sip of your Tims coffee; now you're fully ready to enjoy some NHL hockey.

Thoughts on the "Science of What Makes People Care"

People tend to care more when they begin to emotions about something. This article lays out some reasons for why and when this happens and how to inspire people to care about an issue through feeling. The part I agree with most is the point “Create meaningful calls to action,” I think this applies not only to inspire people to care but also to motivate them to do something about it. I also think this is the most important point in the article, because it results in a change being invoked rather than just more people knowing and caring about an issue. To create change you must create emotion towards a topic.
